Merci Mr Vassen

Jogging at Pamplemousses Garden
The grand opening of the SSR Botanical Garden A small jog in the morning can set you up for an entire day of increased activity levels, better food choices, increased mental accuracy, and lower stress levels. With this thought in mind, the team of GRDN came up with the initiative to open the SSR Botanical Garden for joggers in the morning. After many negotiations with the authorities, on the 29th of May 2022, our perseverance got its fruits, and the garden opened its door from 6 am to 8 30 am so that joggers can stamp their feet on its premises. Here we want to warrant recognition of the great personal efforts put in by Mr Ramsingh Ramsur, a truly devoted and faithful social workers who acted as a facilitator and boosted our negociations with the management of SSR Botani-cal Garden Trust to successful ends.

Assisting Ryan Brette and his family.

Ryan Brette’s story has touched the heart of all Mauritians. Ryan became paralysed following a serious road accident, in Mont-Loisir, in 2010. GRDN team united their providing a better quality of life and adequate medical care and equipment. We also supported them in rightfully winning their long-running Court case. Sheila Brette, the mother of Ryan shares her painful journey. She states that GRDN is like a family to her. “GRDN has always been a great support for us. For the past one and a half years, our kitchen is running thanks to the generosity of this NGO. Ryan has been surviving thanks to this amazing team. They made sure at all times that he doesn’t lack food, medicines and all his customised supplements,” she says. Moreover, she thanks GRDN to respond to her miseries at all times. “During my sufferings and hardships, they stood by my side. There were times when they even wiped my tears. There is one man in particular that came as an angel for us, Prakash Aubeeluck. He is more than family to us. He is always present to support Ryan.” Additionally, she narrates a particular story where members of GRDN came to her rescue. “One day there was heavy rainfall, Ryan’s father was admitted to the hospital and at home, water began to enter. I didn’t know what to do. I phoned Prakash Aubeeluck and within minutes he sent two of his friends who came to help me secure Ryan and they removed all water and completely cleaned the house. Unfortunately, one of these boys is no longer with
Mrs Antoinette haven in 60 days.
Yul Ibrahim, vice president of the GRDN stated that given the urgency of the situation, we set a challenge: to build a concrete house for Marie-Ange in 60 days. “Within a week, foundations were laid, and the house was beginning to take shape. There was a great outpouring of solidarity to complete this challenge in the given time. Fortunately, with the support of media partners, our benevolent community, and the hard work of our labour, completing Mrs Antoinette’s house was a huge success.”
